COLD

By: Nick Marsh

"Cold" is a metal band that has nothing but anguish. Their music is centered around their negative attitudes. No I'm not "dissing" them, I'm actually recognizing them for their creativity. Scott Ward, the bands front man, grew up with a very negative attitude. "Our stuff is just a mixture of all the things we like," says Ward.
Scott grew up in Jacksonville Florida with Kiss and Black Sabbath in his ears. Scott and drummer Sam McCandles met in high school and became friends. Soon after they started to play together. Eventually, they decided to start up a band.  They actually went through several bands before they picked up bassist Jeremy Marshall. After all members turned 21 they  moved to Atlanta, Georgia where they met their next guitarist, Kelly Hayes. The quartet decided to name the band "Grundig".
They were a heavy metal band that grew up with a perfect rock style. Unfortunately Ward did not like this style of music and moved back to Jacksonville and started writing his own lyrics. Some time later Ward ran into Fred Durst who was apparently a big "Grundig" fan. After exchanging words and info they became a quick pair of good friends. "That turned everything around for me" stated Ward. Somewhere along the way, the band added two new members, Scooter who is the bands very talented vocalist and also a guitar player and another guitar player who goes by the name Terry. With Wards new and improved band that goes by the name "Cold" Ward and band member on their way to fame. He even commented his band saying "They're a band that's not afraid to expose its true voice".
After buying and constantly listening to their first album "13 Ways to Bleed on Stage" I came to agree with the statement made by Ward that "Colds songs crawl under your scalp and build a nest". They have they same effect on me. They are a talented band that I believe will make it big in the future if they haven't already. They are currently not touring but may be in the future. "Cold" has two incredible albums out, "13 Ways to Bleed on Stage" and "Cold". If you think that this band sounds interesting check them out at www.cold.com if you ever get a chance listen to one of their albums and pay attention to the lyrics. You will then see just how talented Ward and his band really are.

PAYABLE ON DEATH

More commonly known as P.O.D has released their albums on "love and everything" says Marcos, the bands multitalented guitarist. Youth of the nation is a good example of this. "I don't want to say it inspired us, but it gave us the motivation to write something. Well, when we were writing this record, we wanted to be secluded so we went to Santee, in East San Diego, where we had this 35x35 rehearsal studio. One day we were on our way to practice, and we saw all these cops, but we didn't know what was going on. Later we found out what had happened." What had happened was tragic - on March 5th, a 15-year-old freshman at Santee's Santana High School drew a .22-caliber handgun and began shooting, killing two and wounding 13" said Marcos. Obviously not one of their better motivations, but they have had some of the bands that helped inspire them by just liking how they played, they are Green Day, Pennywise, and the Vandals. P.O.D eventually preformed in Ozfest 2000, the Return Of The Rock Tour and had other appearances at malls, talk shows, etc.
P.O.D has set a goal and is working at it." We're trying to be universal," Marcos says. They are soon going on tour to a countless number of states by the end of the year.
