Quick Alert Saves 2                                                           By: Robert Redmond

Roy Ratliff was shot seven times after he was found trying to kill the
two teenage girls he had kidnapped. They were kidnapped at 1 AM at lover's lane by Roy who walked up to
their cars and held them at gunpoint.  They were blindfolded and there boyfriends were tied up. A massive hunt started for the girls when the vehicles description and license number was broadcast  to all authorities.  Herb Marries, Jacqueline's father said that he drove from his home south of LA to attend a vigil for the girls in the desert town of Lancaster.  He said, " Every sign I saw had the license plate of the vehicle and said to call 911." A few hours later gas station workers a Kern county animal worker spotted the Bronco and notified the local police. Ray was shot seven times when he brandished a gun at the police officers. One of the children's parents said that they won't let there children go out at 1 AM again.  My opinion is that if Roy wasn't killed at the scene he should have been sentenced to 25 years in jail for each of the three counts of rape.

The weather near you
By: Jeff Townson

The various weather conditions in NE PA is  hailstorms, wind storms,  heavy downpours and sometimes even tornados. Tornados are made when cold air mixes with warm air and then the wind picks up and the clouds start to rotate. Sometimes they form a funnel and touch the ground. Other times they just stay in the air for a short time and then die off. The stages of a tornado are:
F0 50-90mph,
F1 90-130mph
F2 130-190mph
F3 190-230mph
F4 230-300mph
F5300-365mph.
Hailstorms are different. Hail is formed when a rain drop hits cold air and turns to ice and then goes into warm air. The warm air is not warm enough to melt the ice pellets. Windstorms are different to; they are a line of storms in which the wind speed can reach up to 65-90 mph. Heavy rain comes with all thunderstorms. I like tornados, they come every 5-10 years in PA.  I try to watch them from my house or another houses around me. In the summer PA gets humid and hot so the dew point is high like 65-75 and then storms pop up like popcorn. The worst places to be in a thunderstorm are under a tree in a car out in flat land and open area. You should not take a shower or use a cordless phone. A thunderbolt is very hot and can reach a temperature of a million degrees F.
