Joseph Stacy Murders Key Witness in Trial By- Kevin Cunningham |

Computers have revolutionized nearly every aspect of life. From communications, to business, to entertainment:, computers have provided a great deal of innovation to these fields, but with these advancements come a price. Our dependence on technology has unleashed a Pandora's box upon society. Privacy is slowly being compromised for the sake of money and "security". Automated Teller Machines log every detail of a transaction, including: a photo of the customer, the date of the transaction and location of the ATM. Cameras are located all throughout certain cities and even in some companies, in elevators and cubicles. |

Joseph Stacy, 76 years of age, shot and killed Michael Walter, 43 years of age, on Friday July 5th. Walter was a key witness in a trial against Stacy that was scheduled to start on July 5th. Stacy, a former Westfall Planning Commission chairman, was out on bail for weapons possession and child abuse since August of 2001. He now sits in the Orange County jail in New York, without bail. It seemed like any normal Friday afternoon at the Port Jervis Auto Mall. Normal, that is, until around 3:41 PM when Stacy arrived. He walked past the other customers in the showroom until he found Walter. He then allegedly fired one round after another into Walter, who was a car salesman at the dealership. Port Jervis Police Lt. Craig Cherry said in reference to the fatal shooting: "It's terrible-just terrible…Walter had a wife and ten children." The police investigating the murder declined to say how many rounds were fired, but witnesses at the scene of the crime report that they heard four or five gunshots. "We're not releasing any motive right now," Cherry mentioned. An investigator had reported that Stacy and Walter knew each other from the Westfall Planning Commission. It was noted, also, that Stacy's resignation from the Chairmanship followed soon after the accusation that he allegedly had indecent sexual contact with Michael Walter's two young daughters, ages nine and six. For this incident he was arrested last August and charged with two counts of corruption of minors and three counts of indecent assault, all were misdemeanors. |
