PART II

Written By: James Duvall

They had silenced us as we were carefully guarded. I felt my life in jeopardy as this happened. We were all rallied to a corner, and carefully counted. I can remember one of them smashing the camera during all of this, probably to prevent the security cameras from seeing too much.
The leader spoke to us "The fun is over people! I want all of you to take a seat at the table, no sudden movements or any heroics, if you follow what I say then maybe Vasquo's grace will spare you."
We had all carefully moved to the chairs, sitting at the table nervous of angering our captors, when we were all seated the leader looked over us and said "You do well, now I must say to you, do not worry of your lives, these weapons are not to harm but rather to help."
One of my co-workers Alan, had replied to them with "Well you're short a few for a 21 gun salute."
Looking back to Alan, the leader said "These cursed tools are to help in bringing about fears so you may conquer them so you may finally see the truth for what it is."
Alan responded to them saying, "I see the truth clearly, every day I go to work and make the truth. Each of us are pretty happy here, we love our jobs and our lifestyles."
Our boss decided to speak up at that point, "Whatever you are trying to do this is not the way, and in case you haven't noticed, what you are doing right now is a felony. I can make a deal with you. If you put away the guns and leave, we will all make like this never happened and you can go on your way and no one gets arrested. Doesn't that sound like a good deal to you?"
Beth looked up from her tears and nodded slightly at the suggestion. The leader however was not amused by this suggestion. "I know exactly what I'm doing, I know what the costs are but I don't do this to help myself; I do this to help others as we all do. We are not agents of harm, we are people of guidance, here to help those in need, and you are all in need."
I finally decided to intervene in this conversation, "What exactly do we need according to you?"
"You need guidance and understanding, you need to see this world for what it is."
"And what do I need to understand?"
"The truth, the truth that this world is a lie, the truth that you've been through life with your eyes closed. Don't you see it? Any economist will tell you that workers are essentially regarded as resources rather than people. In a sense, you are literally kept in bondage as cattle, being milked for your worth and then prepared for slaughter when you stop being useful. The truth I tell you may not seem to be as extreme as it sounds, but it is the truth. You are getting the least amount of pampering needed to keep your eyes closed. The seemingly sweet fruit is there to keep you from thinking of escape. It's not there because they like you. It's there to give you a false sense of security. Do you people understand what I'm saying?"
